For instance a cadet who was drawing his maximın salary in Class II under the old scheme drew £720 per annum + £120 per annum can now arrive at a maximın salary in Class II of £1,200 per annum and in view of the large number of senior cadets need not necessarily be a Head

of Department. The Land Officer on the old scale could draw a maximum salary of £780 per annum; under the new scheme the maximum has been raised to £1,100 per annum. The 1st Assistant Director of Public Works maximum salary

was £780 + £75 duty pay and the 2nd Assistant Director of Public Works maximum salary was £750 + 37b duty pay per annum, we understand that the maximum salary of these

officers has now been raised to £1,150 per annum.

although these are but a few instances of the present

anomalous position we humbly submit that the post of

Auditor is equally worthy of recognition.

And

9. We bag to submit that it be observed that the pro-

vision made for the salary of the Auditor is only appro- ximately an increase of 11% on his pre-war salary, and

is 9% less than the 20% increase which was approved

temporarily as a war measure for all Civil Servants in

Hong Kong

We respectfully point out that the maximum of a

Class II cadet being increased from £840 per annum to

£1200 per annum represents an increase of nearly 48%.

And it would require an Actuary to work out the great

benefits to those officers who were only of the rank of

"passed cadets" before the new scheme was adopted. We

find it therefore difficult to reconcile the equity of

the unificent benefits which have been apportioned to

the cadet and other sections of the service with the
